Susie

Susie landed in a local shelter as an owner surrender. She was a hunting dog in her past life, and we would guess not a good one. She is learning to be a dog, slowly but surely. Susie is approx. 4 years old and, unfortunately, heart worm positive. We appear to have caught the infection early so her treatment (covered by the rescue) might be a bit easier than some! After she is heart worm free, the rescue will spay her as well. Susie’s family is going to need to be patient with her. In her foster home, she is starting to feel safe and doing things other dogs do. Her foster mom reports it took her 2 weeks to wag her tail or walk around the house, however, even in new settings now she is much braver! She watches her foster siblings and then tries what they do. Her foster mom and dad get little tail wags now.. but her foster siblings- they get big tail wags. When Susie thinks no one is watching, she does her version of zoomies in the living room. She enjoys spending her time on the couch. Susie will likely need older children in her home who understand what a shy dog needs to feel safe. Susie would probably benefit from another confident dog in the home as well. Right now she is not playing with her foster siblings, but she appears to want to try. Throughout everything, she has remained super sweet and complaint with all her needed care (bath, nail trims, ear cleanings, meds).
