Adoption Information

Common Q&A
  • What are the steps to adopt from K9JL?

Check out our current available dogs for adoption and read their profiles to see if the dog you like sounds like he/she could be a great possible match for you and your family. When you have found a dog you are interested in fill out and submit our adoption application. We will review the application and then if all looks good we will get in touch with you to set up an in home meet-n-greet with the dog and your family. If that meeting goes well we can move forward with the adoption process.

  • Are there any adoption requirements?

We work with each family and dog on a case by case basis with our primary goal being a happy life long adoption placement. Some basic requirements for every adopter are that any current pets be vetted and current on heartworm prevention, the entire family needs to meet and do well with the potential new addition, and we need approval from anyone who is renting their home to adopt by their landlord.

  • How to avoid picking the wrong pet?

Please rely on our experience and guidance when matching you up with your new dog. We are very open and honest about our dogs and any concerns we might have during the adoption stages as our main goal is a lifelong happy adoption. If we do not think a certain dog is the right fit we will explain that and why. While many families are very focused on the look, breed, and age of a dog please be open to our suggestions as the temperament/personality of the dog should trump all else.

  • Are pets for adoption healthy?

All of our dogs have received medical care and are healthy. While we cannot make any guarantees as these are rescue dogs, we put a lot of time and money into ensuring our dogs have received all the care they need to be as healthy and happy as possible.

  • Do I have to have a fenced yard to adopt from K9JL?

We do not require every adopter to have a fenced yard. We focus on each dog and what their needs are specifically for them. Some dogs can or are already trained off leash while other dogs need a 6ft wooden privacy fence. Proper supervision is crucial regardless of having a fence or not and all adopters should be ready to supervise their dogs outside.

  • How much is the adoption fee?

Our adoption fee for dogs over 6 months of age is $150 and for under 6 months of age is $200. We put a lot of time, money, and resources into all of our dogs and this adoption fee only covers a small portion. We welcome adoption donations in any amount over our small pre-set adoption fees.
